FAITH ON THE LINE——— ONE PRIEST CONFRONTING CHAOS

Fr. Orthohippo with a former US Marine who spend four different assignments in Iraq in the midst of chaos..

Below is a remarkable photo showing a Greek Orthodox priest confronting a rioter in the act of throwing into a crowd. A little background on the event.

Greece is in the throws of chaotic social and economic upheavel.  The huge national debt and obligations have proven impossible for the government to meet its obligations. In large part this is because of the trememdous resistance for cutting spending and social obligations. Increasing taxes are crushing the middle classes, while the poorer classes are facing significant decreases in income and services. Stronger nations of Europe and the USA are, for the third time, urgently working to forestall a Greek default of its financial obligations. It again involves massive lending, much of it newly created money, to an already basically bankrupt government.

Does any of this sound familiar?

This priest is living out the Christian call to confront and overcome evil.  It is not the Christians who stay safe behind the gates of Hell.  It is we Christians who are called to prevail against those gates of Hell. This call to action for the priest is a direct and, frankly, fearsome one. Anyone who has normal God-gived instincts for self-protection becomes aware of the danger such action presents.

It is a call most of us probably will face in our life times. Things are rampiing up.
